After eight years as chairman of the village of Liverpool Zoning Board of Appeals, Dr. Michael Romano resigned his position on Dec. 1.

At the village board’s Dec. 11 meeting, Mayor Gary White appointed ZBA member Jonathan Miles as the new chairman of the ZBA.

The village zoning board rules on requests from property owners seeing area variances, use variances and interpretation of the zoning ordinances.

Besides Miles, the board includes Pam Carey, Melissa Cassidy, David DeRouchie and former Village Trustee Dennis Hebert.

In his letter of resignation submitted to the village board this month, Romano acknowledged some frustration regarding his efforts to oversee Lodge’s variance request, but concluded on an upbeat note: “I wish you all the best as we strive to maintain and improve our village for the next generation.”

Miles will serve out Romano’s term as chairman through 2021.

An active participant in the development of the Village Comprehensive Plan, Romano said in the past that his focus on that plan “gave me an idea of what village is trying to accomplish.” As ZBA chairman he always tried to assure that rulings “stayed consistent” with long-term village goals.

A dentist by profession, Romano remains as chairman of the Village Cemetery Committee.

At the Dec. 11 meeting village board meeting, Mayor White said he appreciated Romano’s many years of volunteer work on the ZBA and other village projects.
